Surgical Director of the Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit
The Department of Surgery at the University of Rochester Medical Center, Golisano Children’s Hospital, is seeking an experienced clinician to act as the Surgical Director of the Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit. The optimal candidate would have experience in both operative and critical care medicine in pediatric cardiac surgery. Candidates that are board-eligible in Pediatric Cardiac Surgery and have an additional year of training or critical care experience are ideal. The candidate should be able to work and partner with a multi-disciplinary care team. Active interest and experience in research are desirable.
The University of Rochester Medical Center is the only quaternary pediatric cardiac care center in western and upstate New York. The hospital is the main operative center for a regionalized pediatric cardiac surgical program that cares for over 5 million New York State residents across three cities (Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse) and 31 counties. The surgical program is led by Dr. George Alfieris and Dr. Shuichi Yoshitake, who perform 250-300 cases per year, and is the second busiest program in New York State. The16 bed dedicated Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit is staffed by a team of Pediatric Cardiac Intensivists, Pediatric Cardiologists, Pediatric Cardiac Surgeons, and advanced care providers.
Responsibilities:
Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of pediatric cardiac intensivists, pediatric cardiologists, pediatric cardiac surgeons, advanced practice providers, and specialists
Provide surgical coverage in the operating room under the guidance of the Chief of Pediatric Cardiac Surgery
Focused support of the pediatric cardiac ICU
Perform surgical procedures including ECMO cannulation
