- Michigan Medicine Faculty Position as Chief of Cardiac Surgery - MyMichigan Health
Description
We are seeking a visionary and compassionate Cardiac Surgeon for a faculty appointment with Michigan Medicine to lead transformative change as the inaugural Chief of the MyMichigan Health Cardiac Surgery Program under a new collaborative care model between MyMichigan Health and University of Michigan Health.
This is a unique opportunity to guide the growth and innovation of cardiac surgery in Midland and Saginaw. You will lead a talented team, drive clinical excellence, and build upon a strong foundation of success, all while being supported by executive coaching and leadership development opportunities through the University of Michigan.
The Opportunity
This leadership role is a full-time faculty position with the University of Michigan Medical School, based at MyMichigan Health’s Midland and Saginaw campuses. You will oversee a well-established clinical practice with significant, planned expansion.
The program currently performs 600+ open-heart and structural heart procedures annually across both sites. The combined annual volume includes 320+ open cases and 200+TAVR procedures with goals to continue to grow our transcatheter mitral and tricuspid program. This is an opportunity to not only manage a busy and successful practice but to strategically direct the program.
A faculty appointment at the University of Michigan Medical School, with a comprehensive University of Michigan benefits package, will be offered. The academic rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor will be based on your experience and qualifications. This role will enjoy the benefits of a close collaboration with Michigan Medicine for clinical and academic resources as a faculty member in the Department of Cardiac Surgery.
Key Leadership Responsibilities
- Strategic Vision and Program Development: In partnership with leaders from both institutions, guide the strategic vision for the cardiac surgery program. Unify the program under a single standard of excellence, focusing on elevating quality, ensuring superior patient outcomes, and directing investments to foster long-term success.
- Collaborative Team Leadership: Foster a deeply integrated and respectful care environment. Work in close collaboration with a highly skilled team of cardiologists, including interventional, heart failure, and EP specialists as well as hospital leadership and dedicated support staff.
- Team Building and Mentorship: Lead the recruitment, hiring, and mentorship of new faculty surgeons and team members as the program expands, shaping a high-performing group dedicated to excellence in patient care.

Ideal Candidate Profile
- MD or DO degree.
- Board certified by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery (ABTS) or its equivalent.
- Completion of an ACGME-accredited cardiothoracic surgery residency.
- Proficient in all aspects of adult cardiac surgery with excellent technical skills.
- A proven track record of high-quality outcomes and demonstrated aptitude in program development and leadership.
- Must hold or have the ability to obtain a full, unrestricted medical license in the State of Michigan.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience.
