The Division of Cardiology at Washington University School of Medicine (WashU Medicine) invites applications and nominations for Clinical Chief, Division of Cardiology. The Division is seeking an experienced leader to advance the Division’s inpatient and outpatient clinical programs.
Reporting to the Division Chief of Cardiology, the Clinical Chief of Cardiology will be the physician leader for clinical cardiology practice growth and operations at WashU Medicine. The Division manages more than 50,000 patient visits annually with services provided at seven locations. The Clinical Chief will oversee clinical cardiology strategic planning, growth, and clinical operations for the Cardiology Division.
The candidate will engage with Cardiology faculty, staff and trainees to recruit and retain outstanding clinical faculty and staff, optimize clinical operations, efficiency, clinical outcomes and patient experience. The Clinical Chief will be responsible for developing and implementing plans for strategic growth and success of inpatient and outpatient clinical cardiology programs for Wash U Medicine, and will also oversee programs to optimize quality metrics, patient safety, and patient experience.
Core responsibilities include clinical strategic planning, program development, operational oversight, integration of care delivery, and ensuring clinical excellence in alignment with the Division’s educational and research missions. The Clinical Chief will work closely with the Division Chief and Cardiology Section Heads, the Department of Medicine, School of Medicine’s Faculty Practice Plan (FPP), 1,273-bed BJC’s Barnes-Jewish Hospital and BJC HealthCare leaders. The candidate will oversee Cardiology Medical Directors based at BJH, Barnes Jewish West County Hospital, the Heart Care Institute and all Wash U Cardiology practice sites. The Clinical Chief will collaborate with other WashU Medicine Divisions and Departments, the FPP, BJC HealthCare, and community partners to optimize clinical growth and excellent multidisciplinary care.
The Clinical Chief of Cardiology should be a practicing clinical cardiologist noted for clinical expertise with operational and administrative experience in establishing and growing clinical practices, overseeing clinical operations, improving quality and safety, leading physicians and working closely with hospitals to advance cardiovascular care. The candidate must have an active medical license, board certification in cardiology, and be eligible for medical licensure in Missouri and Illinois. Successful candidates will be expected to continue to practice clinically and be provided significant administrative time for the Clinical Chief role.
