The Department of Surgery at Penn State College of Medicine is seeking a cardiac surgeon to join the Division of Cardiac Surgery and the Cardiac Surgery Program within the Penn State Heart and Vascular Institute. This is a full-time faculty position with an academic appointment at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level, commensurate with experience and academic achievements.
We are recruiting a surgeon with broad expertise in adult cardiac surgery and a strong commitment to clinical excellence, education, and scholarly activity. In addition to competency across the full spectrum of adult cardiac surgery, we have a particular interest in candidates with focused expertise in mitral valve surgery, including minimally invasive and robotic mitral valve procedures.
The successful candidate will join a high-performing and nationally recognized cardiac surgery program at Penn State Heart & Vascular Institute, with clinical responsibilities at both Penn State Health Hershey Medical Center and Penn State Health Holy Spirit Hospital. The Heart and Vascular Institute integrates cardiac surgery, vascular surgery, and cardiology within a unified service line committed to excellence in patient care, research, and education across Penn State Health.
Clinical responsibilities include:
- Providing comprehensive adult cardiac surgical care, including coronary, valvular, and structural heart procedures
- Mitral valve surgery, with preference for minimally invasive and robotic approaches
- Participating in cardiac surgery services at both Hershey Medical Center and Holy Spirit Hospital
- Collaborating within multidisciplinary programs across the Heart and Vascular Institute
Academic and educational responsibilities include:
- Teaching residents, fellows, and medical students
- Participation in clinical trials, quality improvement initiatives, and scholarly work
- Supporting the academic mission of the Department of Surgery and the Heart and Vascular Institute
Qualifications:
- MD, DO, or foreign equivalent
- Completion of an ACGME-accredited cardiothoracic surgery residency. Additional fellowship training in mitral valve surgery and minimally invasive and robotic surgery preferred
- Board certified or board eligible in Thoracic Surgery
- Eligibility for medical licensure in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
- Demonstrated excellence in clinical care and strong interpersonal skills
